The Shimanami Cyclist Etiquette Promotion Council has created a helpful educational video with pictograms that makes understanding cycling etiquette a breeze.
Just three fundamental concepts–yield, take your time, and say hello–are sure to make your cycling trip on the Shimanami Kaido more fun.
Last year, the Council decided on the catchphrase “Cheerful greetings with loving smiles in Shimanami,” with the key word “greetings” aiming at improving the etiquette of cyclists in the Shimanami area.
This includes the idea that cyclists can confirm one another’s presence through universal “greetings” and prevent accidents, and say hello with a smile that provides a feeling of camaraderie and peace of mind and makes them feel like coming back again.
