    Uwajima Station

Set out from Uwajima Station! Encounter the knowledge of the people who rely on the ria coast.

Departing from Uwajima Station, we head for the route that runs alongside the sea with beautiful scenic views. The Kuroshio Current, which flows deep below the ocean, provides a favorable environment for fish and pearl cultivation in the Uwakai Sea here. The sunlight glistening on the calm water’s surface combined with the aquaculture rafts makes for a unique landscape you can only find at the Uwakai Sea.

Many of the roads along the ria coast are quite hilly, but this route is relatively flat, allowing cyclists to enjoy the beautiful scenery. When you reach the terraced fields at Yusumizugaura, you will see the terraces surrounded by stone walls leading up a steep slope. They symbolize the agricultural wisdom and harmony with nature that have been handed down since the Edo period. This landscape, which was created by the efforts and ingenuity of the people who work here, will be an unforgettable memory from your trip.
