[32km] Savoring Authentic, Top-Quality Jakoten at Two Long-Established Shops
This gourmet cycling tour takes you through Uwajima, the birthplace of jakoten, to visit two shops: “Kawachiya Kamaboko-ten”, a historic shop with over 170 years of history, and the locally beloved “Yakushijin Kamaboko-ten”. Generally, Uwajima-style jakoten is known for its firm, springy texture and pleasantly coarse bite that deliberately retains the tiny fish bones. You will get to compare authentic jakoten made from high-quality lizardfish from the Uwa Sea, each prepared using the traditional methods that these shops have preserved for generations. Enjoy the spectacular view from the Kushima Ohashi Bridge and the beautiful coastline of Kokubo Beach on this luxurious tour, where you can experience the depth of Uwajima's food culture. This E-BIKE journey through Ehime's Nanyo region offers a special cycling experience that will satisfy both your palate and your eyes.

Founded in 1848, this long-established shop has been dedicated to making delicious kamaboko (fish cakes) for over 160 years, preserving its traditional taste. Their “Handmade Jakoten” is made from fresh local fish, mainly hotarujako (a type of cardinalfish), and is thick and finished by hand, one piece at a time. They demonstrate and sell freshly fried handmade jakoten daily. This golden delicacy, created by the skilled techniques of artisans, is the essence of the old-fashioned method, allowing you to fully enjoy the natural flavor of the fish. It is a luxurious treat where the warmth and aroma of the freshly fried jakoten spread in your mouth.

The beautiful Kokubo Beach, which unfolds shortly after returning to the mainland from Kushima, is an excellent viewpoint offering a magnificent panorama of the Uwa Sea. The coastline, surrounded by a calm inlet, is a very local area familiar to residents, where you can enjoy riding while feeling the sea breeze. The contrast between the highly transparent seawater and the white sandy beach is beautiful, making it a spot where you can truly feel the natural richness of Uwajima. It is a special place where you can feel the beauty and richness of the Uwa Sea, whose fish become the ingredients for the jakoten you will enjoy at “Yakushijin Kamaboko-ten”.
